We started on our antenatal class last Saturday conducted by the famous Mrs Wong Boi Boi from TMC's Parentcraft. All my girlfriends (who're mothers) and almost everyone on the forums will know who I'm talking about. Mothers who are not even delivering at TMC will opt to attend her classes. Apparently, she was even the consultant for some parenting talkshow telecasted recently on Channel U.
The class was packed.... I think there were 24 mothers, hence a total of 48 participants including the fathers. Judging by her reputation, I supposed it was not unexpected. To be frank, it took me awhile to open up to her lesson. Perhaps it was her style of conducting; the 'machine-gun' kind of intonation, her sense of dry humour when she tries... and the fact that she mentioned her 'classes never ends on time' and if any of us wanted classes that end on time, we should attend her colleagues' slots. Duh.
Anyways, aside from this, I do admit Mrs Wong has a wealth of experience that she is very willing to share. What was covered last Saturday was on the overall health and well-being of the mother, including postures, being mobile when you get bigger and some simple exercises, massage techniques and nutrition. I did pick up a thing or two from her.... like not massaging the stomach in circular motion as this may bring about early contractions in a sensitive uterus. Her recommended massage technique is bottom-up vertical strokes.
Also, all fathers were told to put this on. A minute in the life of an expecting mommy in her 2nd trimester!
