We've been holding off using a pacifier for Luca, as such, I've become his pacifier. But just before Luca turned 2 months, he had found his fingers and is able to sooth himself most of the times, which I thought was really something... and cute!! But people are telling me how difficult it is to wean off the thumb (since it's always available), as opposed to just removing the pacifier when not needed.
Had lunch at House last Friday with a fellow mommy!!! I remember Carol and I used to joke about being mommies at the same time (that was many many years back when I was still being useful in the workforce!)... I know it's a weird thing to joke about... but we all do weird things sometimes. Anyways, what may seem even weirder was that after many many years later... we did become mommies! In the same month of March this year! Baby Ethan was born 2 weeks before Luca! No... we did not plan it this way.... it just happened.... and it's been great, right from the beginning when we both found out about the pregnancies (I can still recall being in Guardian, on the phone with Carol and staring at the pregnancy kits... discussing whether to buy the more expensive ClearBlue one or the cheaper house brand.... I bought the cheap one! WAH HAH HAH)! What are the odds to have a close friend go through the same important milestone together? We discussed about everything... from the symptoms to the belly size! We researched for the perfect gynea, went crazy over baby's heart beats, looked for maternity wear and books about expecting and parenting, prepared for the big day and even managed to find time to complain about confinement nannies! It had all been joyful.

As I'm writing now, the fan is blowing full-blast at me as my air-conditioning is still not repaired. We've decided to get a second opinion when Hong Tar diagnosed the motherboard to be faulty and we'll need to replace it at our own cost for $380. This is not a small sum to pay especially since the compressor and fancoils were installed by them just 2 years back. Shouldn't the compressor be on 5 years warranty? Well, apparently, the motherboard, the powerboard, and everything else in the condenser (this big thingy outside my window) is not under 5 years warranty. Only the compressor in this big thingy outside my window (aka condenser) is on warranty. Duh??!?!?! Anyways, we'll be getting someone (neutral, I hope!) else to have a look at it. So for the past week, Dave and I have been bunking in Luca's room! Real cozy. We've never been happier with the ceiling fan.
Other than the restaurants at Dempsey... here's another stoller-friendly place to lunch! Situated in Bishan Park, the Canopy is quiet enough on a weekday afternoon for us to have a perfect lunch with Luca!
You remember Ugly Kid Joe's Cat's In the Cradle?
My child arrived just the other day,
He came through the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay.
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talking 'fore I knew it, and as he grew,
He'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, dad.
You know I'm gonna be like you."And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, "Thanks for the ball, dad, come on let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today,
I got a lot to do." He said, "That's ok."
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed, and
Said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah.
You know I'm gonna be like him."And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you coming home, dad?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then.
You know we'll have a good time then."Well, he came from college just the other day,
So much like a man I just had to say,
"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head, and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like, dad is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?"And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then."I've long since retired and my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job's a hassle, and the kid's have the flu,
But it's sure nice talking to you, dad.
It's been sure nice talking to you."
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me,
He'd grown up just like me.
My boy was just like me.And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
Little boy blue and the man on the moon.
"When you coming home, son?" "I don't know when,
But we'll get together then, dad.
You know we'll have a good time then.
