I've heard of how hectic some of my friends' Chinese New Year visitations can get; starting as early as 8am and visiting as many as 6 relatives' homes... all in a day! And if kids are in the picture, there'll be lots of logistics arrangements to be taken care of, like special food (if the kids are below 1 year), diapers, new sets of clothes for after bath at relatives' homes, toys... and I'm pretty sure that's not all!
I must consider myself extremely lucky as we've never needed to visit more than 3 places during chu-yi (初一); the first day of the Lunar month. All relatives will gather where the eldest and most senior member of the family lives (and since my grandpa stays with my folks, that will be my family!), so it's basically a 1-stop bai nian (拜年).
Our first stop on 初一 was my father-in-law's house. Aunty Chun even prepared the Henghua's traditional main xian (面 线) for us!
We'll then visit my maternal Grandparents, and have a healthy steamboat lunch!
This year, we managed to sneak back home for a late afternoon nap!!!! Gosh.... did I mention how sleepy I can get at this advance stage of my pregnancy? Nothing beats freshening up and preparing for the last stop for dinner at my folks' place and some friendly gambling through the night!
